Talk about features, this baby has pretty much all you could ask for in a CD deck. Some are more useful then others, but fortunately, everything is easy to use, and most users can probably begin using it right out of the box without even reading the manual. Features include:
Turntable Scratch Emulation-This works great, and it really sounds like you are using vinyl instead of CDs. Of course, it will take some getting used to if you are transitioning from vinyl to CD

Auto Beat Mixing-The idea behind this is that the deck will automatically beatmix your tracks for you. Whether or not this actually works in largely dependent on how well the built in beatcounter is tracking the beats, if it is even tracking the correct beat to begin with. You can also use this to "lock" beats together once you have them manually mixed, so when the tracks inevitably start to drift apart. the deck will pull them back together.

Beat Counter-Displays BPM of tracks, oftentimes without even having to play the track! Also features a neat "Marching LED display" that provides a visual way of matching beats on tracks. Like I stated above, when the beatcounter is actually tracking the right beat, it works great. Fortunately, if it does start to track the wrong beat, it can easily be reset, or manually configured to find the correct beat.

Pitch Slider/Lock-The pitch slider on this thing can go 100% up or down! What makes it even cooler is the pitch lock function. You can increase the speed 100% with the pitch lock on, and the speed will just double while the pitch of the music stays perfectly the same. This works better when going faster, as when you go slower, it has to stretch out samples, which can lead to some pretty strange digital distortions.

Built in Effects-In addition to the turntable effect mentioned previously, it also features 12 other effects. This includes a flanger, a backwards play function, echo, reverse echo, EQ Isolate, EQ kill, plus several others. The parameters of these effects are all changed via the control wheel. One of my only complaints about this CD player is that selecting the effects can sometimes be a bit hard to do, especially when you are trying to quickly access one. Also, you cannot combine effects!

Looping-Seamless looping is pretty much standard on many DJ dual CD decks, but this one can also modify your loop so that it automatically loops perfectly, even if you don't loop it rhythmically correct to begin with. This deck features two seamless loop sets, which can also double as cue points. One of the neat things about this is that the deck buffers several seconds of the loop into memory, so say you make a loop on track 1, now you are playing track 40. Hit the reloop button, and you are back at your loop on track 1 absolutely instantly with NO wait time! Seriously! Skip Protection-45 second skip protection on each deck. Unfortunately, this also seems to be the memory used for many of the decks effects and loops. Therefore, the more loops and effects you have going, the less anti-skip protection available. Installation is easy, just connect two data cables (included) from the control body to the cd transport unit, then hook RCA cables from the transport unit to your mixer. Plug in, turn on, your done. Sound Quality-it's CD, how much of sound quality is actually dependent on the machine? Not much. Sounds great, but beware of the distortions created when locking pitches and slowing music down greatly. They sound terrible, but to give Numark some credit, I don't think there is anything they could do to prevent this from happening. This unit seems to be built fairly well, its chassis could be built more heavily, as the metal the transport unit is made of is fairly thin for a professional rack mount unit. Just don't drop it and it should be ok. Everything seems to be fairly high quality, the actual CD deck trays are made of plastic, I wish they could be metal. I just know I am gonna break one someday, and that will probably be an expensive repair. Instruction booklet is concise, but explains everything in enough detail that after a little bit of playing around, the CDN-88 becomes very easy to master. Overall, this is a great deck to own. Club DJs may find its automatic features to be somewhat of cheating, but it is perfect for mobile DJs. This thing has features any DJ could use, so it makes it versatile for all styles of music.
